Historic 50th anniversary of the launch of Sputnik. Do your students know the significance of this event? Have they even heard of Sputnik? Probably not, which means they aren't familiar with the space race and the space exploration programs that developed as a result of the launch of Sputnik. These programs of the past are the building blocks that lead to the future, the future that your current students and their children will be part of. This is a great way to launch into STEM-G (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Geography) which can also be integrated into a thematic unit with every subject area. VSEP can help.
